Training method for numbers Numbers and colours The abacus game is that of Collection Jo Vaillancourt by Fun-Max which requires observation and deduction from the parrot. The level of difficulty of this game is somewhat high and requires a lot of patience and understanding from your part. All birds have the capacity of recognizing the number of objects in a group up to 8 objects. The bird cannot add numbers. The bird will note that there are 3, 4 or 5 objects in front of him and can do so up to 8 objects without counting. The notion of numbers is very different with birds. You must never count while playing with your bird; it will understand the concept of numbers that you will command, but not the addition nor the numeration. Ex: You state, 3 red discs. Instead of one, two, three red discs. The bird may repeat: One, two, three, by imitation, but will not understand the concept of numeration. In comparison with other games in the Collection Jo Vaillancourt (colours and shapes) the game of numbers is more abstract to the bird. You must not expect fulgurating results with the first training sessions. You must keep in mind that the main goal of the game is to have fun with your bird. My training method for numbers uses the ABACUS for the simple reason that parrots like to move and slide objects, and consequently it makes the game of numbers easier and funnier. Nothing complicated and it pleases the bird.
